We read with interest the letter from Dr Cotton and colleagues in Sheffield regarding our recent paper ‘Tailoring follow-up endoscopy in patients with severe oesophagitis’.1 2 There is limited evidence in the literature regarding the rates of Barrett’s oesophagus (BO) diagnosis at follow-up for severe oesophagitis. In this regard, both studies provide important real-world data. There are, however, some fundamental differences between our studies that are worth highlighting.
