Peter Tasker was born in Huddersfield. He worked for several years in the department of medicine at Charing Cross Hospital, where he was involved in research and co-authored many papers. Eventually, however, he decided on a career in general practice. He joined a vocational training scheme in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, and then became a partner locally at St James’ House Surgery in 1979. He was the first GP in King’s Lynn to be recommended for fellowship of the Royal College of General Practitioners.
