IEEE Draft Guide for Test and Evaluation of on-board Lithium-based Batteries for Electric Vehicle (EV) Propulsion

As the sales of EV continue to increase and the 1 ir service life extends, the lithium-ion batteries, the core components of EV, face challenges in terms of performance degradation and safety. Therefore, regular inspection of battery state is crucial. Traditional battery testing methods involve dismantling the battery pack, which is time-consuming, costly, and requires harsh testing conditions. Furthermore, since EV users are unable to obtain battery data and monitor its health status during daily use, this leads to concerns about vehicle safety and range anxiety. This guide specifies a performance index that includes the information that EV users are concerned about, simplified testing procedures and provides objective, third-party evaluation results. It helps users to evaluate the performance of on-board batteries and discover the batteries' potential safety risks as well.

Current projects that have been authorized by the IEEE SA Standards Board to develop a standard.

No Active Projects

Standards approved by the IEEE SA Standards Board that are within the 10-year lifecycle.

No Active Standards

These standards have been replaced with a revised version of the standard, or by a compilation of the original active standard and all its existing amendments, corrigenda, and errata.

No Superseded Standards

These standards have been removed from active status through a ballot where the standard is made inactive as a consensus decision of a balloting group.

No Inactive-Withdrawn Standards

These standards are removed from active status through an administrative process for standards that have not undergone a revision process within 10 years.
