To get the maximum return on the investment from a studio of any kind, it is essential that the studio be designed and constructed so that there are a minimum of noises which can be detected by the microphone in the studio while a recording is being made. To achieve this condition it is important that noise control for the studio be considered in all phases of the studio design. This paper will discuss the control of various noise sources which may result in an unsatisfactory acoustical condition in the studio. Noise sources which could be disturbing might be the sounds in adjacent studios, the noise of transportation which may be outside the studio, the sounds created by activity of people in the spaces surrounding the studio, and the mechanical systems which provide the studio with heating and cooling. The control of the noise from a specific source may not be discussed explicitly, but the methods which are described will provide control for the sources mentioned.
