In line with new standard frequency limits on octave band filters, a new preferred frequency SIL (PSIL) based on octaves centered at 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz is proposed. The relation to, and interpretation of PSIL, in terms of the old SIL, A-weighted sound levels and other measures of noise are discussed.
