Some of the major trends in sound reproduction research includes the following: Reduction of nonlinear distortion by complementary means. The use of the subjective characteristics of hearing to provide the listener with the highest order of artistic and subjective resemblance to the live rendition. The reduction of bandwidth in speech transmission by means of a code obtained from extracting the information content in the speech signal.
