As part of the development of a spatial ear trainer a study into the auditory percept `ensemble depth` was performed. The perceptual importance of interchannel time differences, spatial distribution and source specificity of early reflection patterns was investigated. Subsequently, exemplary stimuli, providing unidimensional variation of the intended subjective effect, were synthesised and validated with the help of an experienced listening panel.
