Waryas, Paul A.; Battin, R. Ray – Journal of Childhood Communication Disorders, 1985
The study presents normative data on Masking Level Difference (an improvement of the auditory processing of interaural time/intensity differences between signals and masking noises) for 90 learning disabled persons (4-35 years old). It was concluded that the MLD may quickly screen for auditory processing problems. (CL)
Descriptors: Auditory Evaluation, Auditory Perception, Auditory Tests, Aural Learning
Perier, Olivier – Revue de Phonetique Appliquee, 1970
Paper read at the 11th Congress of the International Society for Rehabilitation of the Disabled, Dublin, Ireland, in 1969. (DS)
Descriptors: Auditory Evaluation, Deafness, Educational Objectives, Handicapped Children

Webster, John C.; O'Shea, Noreen P. – American Annals of the Deaf, 1980
Two newly developed and three existing auditory speech discrimination tests were given to a group of 35 National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) students representing the five NTID functional profiles (categories) of hearing discrimination ability. (Author/PHR)

Analysis of Tympanometry of a Severe to Profound Hearing-Impaired Population of School-Age Children.

Morgenstern, Nilda; Jones-Crymes, Barbara – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1979
Tympanograms were obtained on 104 children (4-17 years old) with sensorineural hearing losses of 60 dB or more. The tympanograms were classified according to type and were compared for bilateral similarity. (Author/SBH)
Descriptors: Audiometric Tests, Auditory Evaluation, Clinical Diagnosis, Elementary Secondary Education
Black, Susan – American School Board Journal, 2003
Almost 15 percent of children from 6 to 19 years old have some degree of hearing loss in one or both ears. Offers guidelines for screening students' hearing and recommends that interventions begin with classroom acoustics, which affect all children including those with normal hearing. Includes strategies for accommodating hearing-impaired…

Glattke, Theodore J.; And Others – American Journal of Audiology, 1995
Measures of transient evoked otoacoustic emission (TEOAE) reproducibility were obtained for 506 ears of 260 children and young adults. Findings suggest that TEOAEs provide useful information in routine clinical practice and may be employed to screen for the presence of hearing loss in children and young adults. (DB)
Descriptors: Audiology, Auditory Evaluation, Children, Clinical Diagnosis

Geers, Ann – Volta Review, 1994
This paper examines the special considerations involved in selecting a speech perception test battery for young deaf children. The auditory-only tests consisted of closed-set word identification tasks and minimal-pairs syllable tasks. Additional tests included identification of words in sentences, open-set word recognition, and evaluation of…

Freyman, Richard L.; Nelson, David A. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1991
Frequency difference limens (DLFs) for pure tones were obtained over a wide range of frequencies and levels from 7 normal-hearing subjects and 16 ears of 12 listeners with sensorineural hearing losses. Results indicated that it is reasonable to use data from normal listeners' DLFs to evaluate DLFs from hearing-impaired listeners. (Author/JDD)

Lundeen, Conrad – Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, 1991
Data from 1968-69 testing by the National Speech and Hearing Survey of over 38,000 United States school children indicates a prevalence of hearing impairment at roughly half the usually cited rates. Because of the number of subjects and the unique calibration technique used, these findings should be given greater weight and dissemination.…

Macrae, John H. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1991
The study evaluated use of the Modified Power Law to predict permanent threshold shift (PTS) resulting from noise exposure in eight children with severe sensorineural hearing loss attributed to overamplification by hearing aids. The PTS tended to be flat across frequency with its course similar to PTS in persons with normal hearing exposed to…
Descriptors: Audiology, Auditory Evaluation, Deafness, Equipment Utilization

Nodar, Richard H. – Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, 1978
Teachers of 2231 elementary school students were asked to identify children with known or suspected hearing losses. (CL)

Formby, C.; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1988
The correlation between extended high-frequency thresholds and caloric responses was studied in 52 dizzy patients, aged 15-84. Results showed no strong tonotopic relation between the audiometric data and unilateral weakness of the caloric response, but indicated a subtle trend for eye velocity to increase as a function of increasing hearing…
