Brown, Ann L.; Murphy, Martin D. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1975
The ability of preschool children to construct and reconstruct ordered sequences was examined in a series of four experiments. Subjects were 42 children aged 3 to 5 years. The conditions under which reconstruction of an arbitrary series of events is possible are described. (Author/GO)
Descriptors: Memory, Preschool Children, Recall (Psychology), Serial Learning

Detterman, Douglas K. – American Journal of Psychology, 1974
The experiments presented in this study tried to validate and clarify the notion of distinctiveness and the assumptions on which it is based, particularly as it relates to prediction of the serial-position effect. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Memory, Psychological Studies, Research Methodology, Serial Learning
Koffman, Elaine Cooper; Weinstock, Roy B. – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1974
The present experiment tested whether the Total Time Hypothesis would remain valid when either response availability or S interest was low. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Experimental Psychology, Memory, Psychological Studies, Serial Learning

Siegel, Alexander W.; And Others – Child Development, 1976
The spatial and temporal components of a serial position recall task were experimentally manipulated in a study using kindergarten, first grade, and second grade children to determine the factors involved in the primacy effect. (BRT)

Foley, Wayne Edward; Lippman, Louis G. – J Exp Child Psychol, 1970
Neither adults' nor children's performances on a reconstruction task was affected by spatial variation, but children's performance was influenced by variation in the temporal sequence of stimulus presentation. This article is based upon an M.A. thesis by the first author under supervision of the second author. A version of this paper was presented…

Lippman, Louis G. – American Journal of Psychology, 1974
This experiment attempted to obtain an estimate of perceptual isolation effects when the isolated item was the only distinctive feature in the list and to obtain data on continuous serial learning in order that isolation and serial-position effects could be compared directly. (Author/RK)
