Bohnert, Andrea; Spitzlei, Vera; Lippert, Karl L.; Keilmann, Annerose – Volta Review, 2006
Between 2000 and 2006, the University Clinic for Ear Nose and Throat and Communication Disorders in Mainz, Germany, performed 41 bilateral cochlear implantations in children. This article addresses some of the factors to be considered in a decision to bilaterally implant a child, including the age of the child at the first implant, the length of…

Hersch, L. Brian; Amon, Carol – American Annals of the Deaf, 1975
Descriptors: Auditory Evaluation, Exceptional Child Services, Hearing Impairments, Identification

Stevenson, P. W. – International Journal of Man-Machine Studies, 1975
A report which outlines the operation and some applications of an automatic audiovisual system for the assessment of a subject's phonemic discrimination ability based on a two-alternative forced-choice response situation. (Author)
Descriptors: Audiology, Audiometric Tests, Audiovisual Aids, Auditory Evaluation
Wilson, Stephanie; Shaughnessy, Michael F. – 1989
This paper provides guidelines for neonatal audiologic screening. Hearing tests that measure behavioral responses, and those that measure physiological changes of body function in response to a stimulus, are discussed. The paper is intended to rectify inadequate means of identifying and testing infants considered as high risks for hearing loss.…

Descriptors: Auditory Evaluation, Auditory Tests, Electroencephalography, Equipment

Ashmead, Daniel H.; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1987
Study measures the precision of auditory localization in 26- to 30-week-old infants using the adult minimum audible angle test. Results show that infants discriminate sound displacements of about 19 degrees, considerably less accurate than adult values of one to two degrees. (Author/RWB)
Descriptors: Auditory Discrimination, Auditory Evaluation, Auditory Perception, Auditory Stimuli
Gleason, Deborah – Education of the Visually Handicapped, 1984
The paper provides an overview of audiological terms and types of hearing impairments to help teachers of visually impaired preschoolers work more effectively with audiologists. Both functional auditory assessment and formal audiometric evaluations are discussed. (Author/CL)
Descriptors: Auditory Evaluation, Hearing Impairments, Multiple Disabilities, Preschool Education

Eisner, Victor; Oglesby, Allen – Journal of School Health, 1971
Briefly discusses several hearing screening methods, and indicates that standards for hearing tests are well established and are not controversial. (CJ)
Descriptors: Auditory Evaluation, Auditory Stimuli, Auditory Tests, Evaluation

Descriptors: Auditory Evaluation, Diagnostic Tests, Exceptional Child Research, Hearing Impairments

Wetherby, Amy Miller; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1981
The results showed that all the Ss had normal hearing on the monaural speech tests; however, there was indication of central auditory nervous system dysfunction in the language dominant hemisphere, inferred from the dichotic tests, for those Ss displaying echolalia. (Author)
Descriptors: Auditory Evaluation, Autism, Echolalia, Language Acquisition
Penrod, John P. – Diagnostique, 1980
The paper presents information regarding the major components of a basic audiologic test battery and the effects of hearing impairment on certain areas of development. (Author)
Descriptors: Audiometric Tests, Auditory Evaluation, Elementary Secondary Education, Hearing Impairments

Nelson, David A. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1991
Forward-masked psychophysical tuning curves were obtained at multiple probe levels from 26 normal-hearing listeners and 24 ears of 21 hearing-impaired listeners with cochlear hearing loss. Results indicated that some cochlear hearing losses influence the sharp tuning capabilities usually associated with outer hair cell function. (Author/JDD)
Descriptors: Adults, Audiology, Auditory Evaluation, Comparative Analysis

Prieve, Beth A.; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1991
The paper describes the unexpected finding of evoked otoacoustic emissions from one ear of a subject with severe-to-profound bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. It is suggested that the subject may have a group of surviving outer hair cells in some regions of the left cochlea with corresponding inner hair cell or neural damage. (Author/DB)

Rankovic, Christine M. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1991
The application of the Articulation Index (AI) model to the fitting of linear amplification was evaluated for 12 subjects with sensorineural hearing loss. For all subjects, the relationship between percent-correct scores on a nonsense syllable test and AIs was monotonic, indicating that AI was effective for comparing conditions typical of those…

Sussman, Joan E. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1991
This investigation examined the response strategies and discrimination accuracy of adults and children (aged 5-10) as the ratio of same to different trials was varied across 3 conditions of an auditory discrimination task. All subjects changed response strategies depending on the ratio of same-to-different trials. (DB)
