Harris, Lauren Jay – 1973
Some of the major lines of investigation that point to neurophysiological factors in spatial skill are presented. These lines include: the two hemispheres of the brain, recent studies, tachistoscopic studies, morphological differences between the cerebral hemispheres, Geschwind and Levitsky's discovery, cerebral dominance re-examined, sex…

Kelly, Ronald – American Annals of the Deaf, 1978
A review of the research pertinent to hearing subjects is provided as background for understanding recent studies which indicate that an early severe hearing loss can influence the lateral organization of the brain for processing language and other types of information. (Author/BD)

Stellern, John; And Others – Journal of American Indian Education, 1986
Examines language and spatial lateralization of 49 elementary American Indian students using a cognitive-manual dual task model and psychoeducational assessment techniques. All students were found to be left-hemisphere dominant for language and some were lateralized to the left hemisphere for spatial function. Contradicts evidence of right-brain…

Dean, Raymond S.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1981
Compared lateral preference patterns for normal and learning-disabled children. Results indicated that learning-disabled children were more bilateral on factors involving visually fine motor activity, listening, and fine motor foot preference. Also studied the verbal-spatial abilities of learning-disabled children classified as normal or…

Williams, H. G.; And Others – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1980
Both right-and left-handed normally developing 6-year-olds showed considerable evidence of bilateralization of hemispheric functions for spatial and verbal information processing; the slowly developing children (ages 5-9) exhibited unusual patterns of hemispheric specialization usually opposite those typically expected in children or adults.…

Dean, Raymond S. – Journal of School Psychology, 1980
The laterality preference patterns and types of oral reading errors were examined for seventh-grade males. Results support the initial argument that difference-poor readers fail to comprehend because of problems in organizing visual input, which seems intimately tied to a bilateralization of functions. Carter, Gregory; Kinsbourne, Marcel – Developmental Psychology, 1979
Focuses on the differential representation of mental functions between the two human cerebral hemispheres. The manner in which right hemisphere function laterizes in childhood was studied in 98 five- to twelve-year-old children. (CM)

Safer, Martin A.; Leventhal, Howard – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1977
Two experiments are presented in which lateralization of monaural, auditory input affected the evaluation of verbal passages. Discusses lateral differences in evaluating auditory stimuli in the framework of the left hemisphere's specialization for the holistic processing of objective information and the right hemisphere's specialization for the…

Hartman, Steve E.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
Results for 75 medical students and 248 undergraduates suggest that the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator appears to sample only 3 bipolar personality dimensions rather than the 4 that the use of "type tables" implies. One of these dimensions shares substantial variance with the cognitive model of hemispheric dominance. (SLD)

Underwood, Geoffrey; Boot, Daphne – Journal of Reading Behavior, 1986
Investigates visual processing asymmetries in normal and dyslexic readers to determine whether differences between dyslexics and normals were due to structural hemispherical differences or to strategical processing differences. Results indicate dyslexics behave as normal readers if they are unable to predict whether the stimulus will be verbal or…
