Laudano, Francesco – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 2022
We introduce the concept of the "sequence of the ratios of convex quadrilaterals," identify some properties of these sequences and use them to provide new characterizations for some classic quadrilateral families. The research involves aspects of geometry, arithmetic and mathematical analysis, which converge to produce the results.

Zheng, Juan; Li, Shan; Lajoie, Susanne P. – Education and Information Technologies, 2022
This study examined the relationships between clinical reasoning behaviors and diagnostic efficiency in the context of diagnosing a virtual patient in BioWorld, a technology-rich environment designed for medical students to practice clinical reasoning skills. Eighty-two medical students who correctly solved a patient case with Diabetes Mellitus…

Bottema-Beutel, Kristen; Crowley, Shannon; Kim, So Yoon – Autism: The International Journal of Research and Practice, 2022
This study is a qualitative investigation of caregiver-child interactions, involving 15 autistic children who are in the early stages of language learning. Data consisted of 15-min videos of free-play interactions recorded in a University clinic. We use conversation analysis to examine the sequence organization of proposal episodes, where the…

Ibrahim, Bashirah; Ding, Lin – International Journal of Science Education, 2023
We investigate students' eye movements when they solve sequential and simultaneous synthesis physics problems. In sequential synthesis problems, multiple events occur chronologically, whereas in simultaneous synthesis problems, multiple events take place concurrently. We captured students' eye fixations on each problem diagram and recorded their…

Kmail, Zaher; Rabideau, Michelle – IEEE Transactions on Education, 2023
Contribution: This article compares student success via different pathways in which students take mathematics courses required for engineering degrees. Background: Mathematics courses are an integral part of engineering curriculum. Many institutions require or recommend the order in which students take Calculus II, Multivariable Calculus,…

Hawthorne, Casey; Gruver, John – Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching PK-12, 2023
The ability to interpret mathematical symbols and understand how they capture contextual relationships is a critical element of algebraic thinking. More often than not, students see algebra as merely a list of rules for manipulating abstract symbols, with limited to no meaning. Instead, for students to see algebra as a powerful tool and rich way…

Joaquín Cañero-Arias; Ángel Blanco-López; José María Oliva – International Journal of Science Education, 2024
This research integrates context-based learning and modelling. It presents a teaching-learning sequence (TLS) about the dissolution of gases in liquids using carbonated drinks as the context. The impact of the TLS is analysed in a longitudinal short-term study involving two groups of learners aged 13-14 years old (n=53). The results led us to…

Charity Cayton; Kayla Chandler – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 2024
This article describes an instructional sequence used with inservice secondary mathematics teachers as part of a graduate course. The instructional sequence focused on designing tasks using Interactive Geometry Software (IGS). This study answers a call for replication studies to investigate the use of an established instructional sequence. Results…

Kendra E. Guinness; Philip N. Chase; Kylan S. Turner; Judah B. Axe – Journal of Behavioral Education, 2024
Graphing is a complex and critical skill for behavior analysts. We evaluated the effects of conceptual training modules and feedback checklists on verbal behavior about graphing conventions and adherence to graphing conventions with graduate students in behavior analysis. In Experiment 1, conceptual training increased the accuracy of verbal…

Esther Ulitzsch; Qiwei He; Steffi Pohl – Grantee Submission, 2024
This is an editorial for a special issue "Innovations in Exploring Sequential Process Data" in the journal Zeitschrift für Psychologie. Process data refer to log files generated by human-computer interactive items. They document the entire process, including keystrokes, mouse clicks as well as the associated time stamps, performed by a…

Yang, Weipeng; Ng, Davy Tsz Kit; Gao, Hongyu – British Journal of Educational Technology, 2022
Programmable robotics is recently used in early childhood education (ECE) to introduce programming and computational thinking (CT) skills. However, there is a further need for research to contrast the efficacy of children's participation in robot programming and traditionally beneficial ECE activities. The present study thus investigated the…

Uke, Ifeyinwa – ProQuest LLC, 2022
There have been many attempts to address the deficits in traditional teaching methods for decades Multiple studies have been done on the Common Knowledge Construction Model (CKCM) and the results of each study has shown an improvement. The addition of relational conceptual change has added much needed improvement in teaching science. This study,…

Rosales, Ma Krishna; Wilder, David A.; Montalvo, Melissa; Fagan, Benjamin – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 2021
The high-probability (high-p) instructional sequence typically consists of the delivery of a series of high-p instructions immediately followed by the delivery of a low-probability (low-p) instruction and is a commonly used procedure to increase compliance among children with intellectual disabilities. In the current study, we used withdrawal…

Lindsay Jarratt; Freda B. Lynn; Yongren Shi; Katharine M. Broton – Research in Higher Education, 2024
Recent research on curricular analytics suggests that the structure of a college major may impact major persistence and degree completion. Contributing to this line of research, we propose and test a new measure of the "lived curriculum" that captures the extent to which cohorts within a major take the same exact course-taking path as…
