Panek, Paul E.; And Others – Journal of Personality Assessment, 1979
The Hand Test and the maladaptive behavior scale of the Adaptive Behavior Scale (ABS) were administered to 78 institutionalized mentally retarded. Significant correlations were found between two purported Hand Test indicators of destructive acting-out behavior and observed violent behavior. (MH)
Descriptors: Adults, Aggression, Antisocial Behavior, Behavior Rating Scales

Rounds, James B.; And Others – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1979
Explored the relationship between vocational needs and experiential factors and constructed a weighted biographical information form to predict vocational needs. Analysis showed the utility of this form as a measure of vocational needs. (Author/BEF)
Descriptors: Behavior Rating Scales, Correlation, Experience, Females

Willerman, Lee; And Others – Journal of Research in Personality, 1976
Most personality tests are based on concepts assessing typical performance, and tests of this sort have not been generally successful in predicting criterion behaviors with useful levels of efficiency. Ability tests, which call for maximal performance, have been much more successful as predictors of criterion outcomes. (Editor)
Descriptors: Individual Characteristics, Performance Criteria, Personality Measures, Personality Studies

Follingstad, Diane R.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1976
Attempts to predict which male Ss (high or low authoritarian personality) would reflect higher self-actualization scores when exposed to a 16-hour marathon group conducted by female leaders. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Females, Males, Measurement Instruments, Predictive Validity

Watkins, Marley W.; Kush, Joseph C.; Glutting, Joseph J. – Psychology in the Schools, 1997
Tests of the validity of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Third Edition Arithmetic, Coding, Information, and Digit Span (ACID) profile among 612 students with learning disabilities revealed that the ACID profile does not efficiently separate children with disabilities from those without disabilities. No ACID cutting score significantly…

Graham, Nanette – Journal of Drug Education, 1997
Examined variations in the comparative strength of predictors of self-reported drug use. Findings indicate that Whites, both male and female, had a significantly stronger positive association between predictors and drug use relative to Blacks. Regarding gender, White females were most likely to use gateway substances, followed by White males. (RJM)
Descriptors: Adolescents, Blacks, Illegal Drug Use, Longitudinal Studies

Langenbucher, James W.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1996
Six alternately weighted algorithms for diagnosing alcohol dependency in accordance with the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (4th ed.) based on statistical, unit, rational and random criterion weighting systems, were used to predict an array of concurrent validators and six-month drinking outcomes in a regional clinical…
Descriptors: Adults, Alcohol Abuse, Alcoholism, Algorithms

Matthews, Lisa S.; And Others – Journal of Marriage and the Family, 1996
Examines the relationship between the quality of marital interaction, both as perceived by spouses and as reported by outside observers, and marital instability and divorce in long-time married couples (n=436). Smith, Peter J.; Murphy, Karen L.; Mahoney, Sue E. – Distance Education, 2003
Describes a test of the potential value of McVay's (2000) Readiness for Online Learning questionnaire on 107 undergraduates in the United States and Australia. Discusses results of a reliability analysis and a factor analysis, which indicated the instruments' usefulness for research and practice and suggests further work to establish predictive…

Zytowski, Donald G. – Career Development Quarterly, 1996
Analyzes selected results of four Kuder Occupational Interest Surveys administered over a 30-year span. Consistencies and changes are observed, leading to a conclusion supporting the "thematic" interpretation of interest inventory results. Relatively stable themes emerged which portrayed a coherent picture of a self in a vocational as…

Pryor, Brandt W. – Adult Education Quarterly, 1990
To test the predictive utility of the theory of reasoned action, 110 oral surgeons completed a questionnaire regarding participation in continuing education. Multiple regression analysis showed that the theory accounted for over 41 percent of variance in intention to participate. Intention appeared controlled by attitude, determined by strength of…

Lenchner, Orna; And Others – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1990
Performance by 38 elementary reading-disabled and above-average readers was compared on a series of 6 measures of phonological awareness, including tests of ability to segment, blend, and manipulate phonemes. Results suggest that tasks requiring blending and manipulation of phonemes, in addition to segmentation, may predict decoding ability best.…

Gardner, Judith M.; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1990
Indicated that infants with different degrees of brain insult display different degrees of abnormalities. The grouping of infants by documented brain insult provides better differentiation of infants than grouping by birth weight. (RH)
Descriptors: At Risk Persons, Birth Weight, Concurrent Validity, Infant Behavior

Gay, Dennis A.; Wong, Daniel W. – International Journal of Rehabilitation Research, 1988
Counselor ratings and statistical data from client files were gathered for 71 rehabilitation clients. A Markov Chain model was developed which provided viable probabilities for predicting rehabilitation outcome at three time periods, from 1 to 13 weeks after initial interview. Predictions generally followed a time progression toward stronger and…
