What Works Clearinghouse Rating

Haggard, Ernest A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Two types of quantitative Rorschach scales are discussed: first, those based on the response categories of content, location, and the determinants, and second, global scales based on the subject's responses to all ten stimulus cards. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Elementary Education, Factor Analysis, Foreign Countries, Intelligence Tests

Poetker, Joel S. – Clearing House, 1977
Presents techniques for assessing attitudes and values. Emphasizes practical techniques readily adaptable for immediate classroom use. Examples are provided for each technique, and a list of sources is supplied for additional information. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Check Lists, Illustrations, Measurement Techniques, Projective Measures

Wagner, Edwin E.; And Others – Journal of Personality Assessment, 1978
The Rorschach, Hand, and Bender-Gestalt tests discriminated slightly between low IQ subjects classified as brain damaged or not. Substantial discrimination was observed between the same subjects classified by intelligence level. Brain impairment may underlie most or all retardation. The efficacy of projective techniques for diagnosing organicity…

Brown, Eleese V. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1977
Descriptors: Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Freehand Drawing, General Education

Vincent, Ken R.; Duthie, Bruce – Social Behavior and Personality, 1986
Examined the comparability of Rorschach Inkblots and the Holtzman Inkblots. Subjects (N=27) were administered both instruments and their responses scored using the standard Holtzman Inkblot Technique variables. The number of responses was controlled when using the Rorschach. Results indicate that the Rorschach Inkblots were a satisfactory…
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Comparative Testing, Diagnostic Tests, Graduate Students

Seddon, G.M. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1983
A method is described of deriving two alternative measures of divergent thinking ability as a single entity (avoiding the spurious effects of fluency) from student responses to open-ended questions traditionally used in tests of divergent thinking ability. (PN)
Descriptors: Creativity, Creativity Tests, Divergent Thinking, Error of Measurement

Bieliauskas, Vytautas J.; Farragher, John – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Administered the House-Tree-Person test to male college students (N=24) to examine the effects of varying the size of the drawing form on the scores. Results suggested that use of the drawing sheet did not have a significant influence upon the quantitative aspects of the drawing. (LLL)
Descriptors: College Students, Higher Education, Intelligence Tests, Males

Rice, David G.; And Others – Journal of Personality Assessment, 1976
Holtzman Inkblot Technique (HIT) responses of 36 same sex and 29 opposite sex college student twin pairs are analyzed. The results are discussed in terms of comparable genetic determination studies with Rorschach responses and the necessity for separate male and female norms on several HIT score response scales. (Author/DEP)
Descriptors: College Students, Correlation, Genetics, Nature Nurture Controversy
Miller, Joel R.; Paul, Howard A. – Training School Bulletin, 1971
Reported are reliability and validity scores obtained for the projective test of perceived feelings of importance and self-worth in retardates 16 years and over. (KW)

Howard, Ann – New Directions for Testing and Measurement, 1983
The complexity of managerial abilities and motivation is displayed in the assessment center method, where judgments depend on a comprehensive package of such techniques as paper-and-pencil tests, interviews, simulations, and projective tests. (Author)
Descriptors: Ability Identification, Administrators, Careers, Interviews

Veiel, H.; Coles, E. M. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
Definitions of projective tests are critiqued. A distinction is made between projective tests and projective techniques. The unique feature of the latter is its scoring process: response categories are intensionally defined and comprise infinite sets of responses. A continuity from psychometric to projective tests is argued. Statistical…

Mellstrom, Martin, Jr.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1978
Compared predictive validity of anxiety measures. Undergraduates were pretested with general and specific trait anxiety measures and later exposed to situations involving a rat, a test, and social anxiety. Results indicated the predictive validity of specific measures was greater than that of general measures in 7 of 32 comparisons. (Author/BEF)
Descriptors: Anxiety, Measures (Individuals), Personality Traits, Predicitve Measurement

Insua, Ana Maria – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1981
An aesthetic value scale of the Rorschach cards was built by the successive interval method. This scale was compared with the ratings obtained by means of the Semantic Differential Scales and was found to successfully differentiate sexes in their judgment of card attractiveness. (Author)
