Schinka, John A.; LaLone, Leif – Psychological Assessment, 1997
To study deviations from U.S. population demographics in the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 restandardization sample, validity, clinical, content, and supplementary scale comparisons were performed between the restandardization sample and a census-matched subsample. Results indicate that deviations from population demographic…

Hayes, Jeffrey A. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1997
Examines the reliability and validity of the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI). Results based on 2,078 clients at 31 university counseling centers who completed the BSI at intake indicate that, although internal consistency for the subscales was high, factor analyses yielded a six-factor solution rather than a nine-factor one. Fisher, William P., Jr. – Journal of Outcome Measurement, 1997
The stability of a physical disability construct was examined across instruments and samples, not to report a formal equating of instrument calibrations, but to indicate whether such an effort could succeed. Implications of using Rasch analysis, often used in educational research, and the possibility of developing a universal metric are discussed.…

Hay, John A. – Canadian Journal of Occupational Therapy, 1997
A study examined the test-retest reliability of 30 student evaluations of tutors in a problem-based learning curriculum at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Results were used for the improvement of reliability of the instrument. (JOW)

Miner, Claire Usher; Osborne, W. Larry; Jaeger, Richard M. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1997
Uses regression analysis on career development measures to examine whether career maturity indicators are predictive of interest consistency, differentiation, and score elevation. Results indicate that interest consistency and score elevation were weakly predicted by the measure; no relationship existed between the attitudinal and cognitive…

Mau, Wei-Cheng – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1997
Describes a revised career grid procedure for assessing vocational constructs. Results based on a study of 146 college students indicate that the expressed method was not superior to the supplied method in choice consistency, integration, and differentiation. Also found no significant gender differences in cognitive complexity measures of the…

Kranzler, John H.; Pajares, Frank – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1997
Presents results of an exploratory factor analysis of the mathematics self-efficacy scale. Results, based on 522 undergraduates from three different colleges, indicate that the scale is a multidimensional measure of math self-efficacy with reliable subscales. Four first-order factors were identified, suggesting that the scale taps different…

Alsup, Ruth; Gillespie, David F. – Structural Equation Modeling, 1997
Data from the General Social Survey for 1977 (n=1,303) and 1991 (n=430) are used to examine the stability of attitudes toward abortion and women's roles. Findings support the hypothesis that public attitudes toward discretionary abortion and nontraditional sex roles are discrete but correlated sets of attitudes that remained stable from 1977 to…

Wainer, Howard; Lukhele, Robert – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
The reliability of scores from four forms of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) was estimated using a hybrid item response theory model. It was found that there was very little difference between overall reliability when the testlet items were assumed to be independent and when their dependence was modeled. (Author/SLD)

Humes, Larry E.; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1996
A study of 20 elderly people with hearing impairments was conducted to test the reliability and stability of different hearing-aid outcome measures. Measures of hearing aid benefit, performance, use, and satisfaction exhibited stability over time, on both a group and individual basis, especially at and beyond 30-day post-fit. (CR)

Kavale, Kenneth A.; Forness, Steven R. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1996
This meta-analysis examined 152 studies on social skill deficits among students with learning disabilities (LD). Quantitative synthesis showed that about 75% of students with LD manifest social skill deficits that distinguish them from comparison samples. Approximately the same level of group differentiation was found across different raters…

Mangelsdorf, Sarah C.; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1996
Compared 34 infants of very low birth weight (VLBW) and 40 full-term infants, using Ainsworth's Strange Situation procedure and Waters' Attachment Q-Set. Found that, at 14 months, VLBW infants were more likely than full-term infants to be insecurely attached when rated using the Q-Set but not when using the Strange Situation. (MDM)

Longford, Nicholas T. – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 1996
Data from two standard-setting exercises were analyzed using the logistic regression model that assumes no variation in severity of raters, and results were compared with those obtained by logistic regression that allowed for severity variation. Results illustrate the importance of taking between-rater differences into account. (SLD)

Liddell, Debora L.; Davis, Tracy L. – Journal of College Student Development, 1996
Tested reliability and validity of an instrument designed to measure the strength of care, and justice as moral voices, in college students. Used 381 students in the study and found that the internal consistency and validity of the instrument were satisfactory. Construct validity was limited by the lack of other appropriate instruments.
