Lawnmowers, Parties, and Writing Groups: What Teacher-Authors Have to Teach Us about Writing for Publication
Whitney, Anne Elrod
English Journal, v101 n5 p51-56 May 2012
For the past few years the author has been studying the writing lives of teachers, first analyzing the contributions of teachers to National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) journals for the ten-year period between 1998 and 2008 and then surveying and interviewing teacher-authors whose works appeared during that period to learn more about their experiences. In this article the author shares some of the things those teacher-writers have taught her about writing for a professional audience, while adding her voice to the many others who have, in the pages of "English Journal," urged readers to write and submit articles about the work of teaching English.
