There's an App for That! Part II
Mallon, Melissa
Public Services Quarterly, v8 n3 p235-244 2012
As academic librarians' professional and personal lives become busier and more varied, the need for tools to assist with accomplishing a myriad of tasks in a short time becomes even more necessary. Due to its ability to provide anytime and anywhere access to information, mobile technology offers a number of advantages for staying connected and assisting patrons. Mobile applications can extend public service transactions well beyond the library by providing on-the-go access to electronic subscriptions as well as 24/7 access to instructional tutorials. Increasingly, academic librarians are using apps as portable productivity assistants; they provide a convenient place to store files or a platform for scheduling meetings. This article focuses on mobile apps for academic public services librarians. The resources reviewed here are among the most widely used apps for reference and instruction, as well as professional development and personal organization.
