Educational Therapists Seek to Be Healers in Times of Tight Budgets
Techaviratanakul, Downie; Murawski, Wendy
Phi Delta Kappan, v93 n5 p48-50 Feb 2012
As funding cuts require schools to do more with less, one main concern is how to continue high-quality learning. That's an ever more difficult proposition where students who have any of a variety of learning difficulties are involved. In such situations an educational therapist can be helpful. Educational therapy is an emerging discipline and practice of providing intensive, individual, remedial intervention. Educational therapy is considered a clinical practice because it involves the holistic treatment of issues that impact the learning process. In addition to providing interventions that address academic goals, educational therapists also address issues such as motivation and self-confidence.
