Preparing for college requires behaviors and skills that must be learned along with academic content. In this article, the authors talk about a technology learning center for seniors that encourages independent learning, engagement, and responsibility. In the Avon Advanced Learning Center (AALC), located on the Avon campus, technology is used by seniors and advanced underclass students, teachers, and counselors to enhance learning. This technology makes resources available to all seniors; enhances the communication between teachers and students; and simplifies complex activities, such as the college selection process. The seamless support of education through the use of technology has long been a goal of many schools and districts. In the AALC, students are able to interact with technology in a way that supports the academic mission of enhancing student achievement. This is done through a program that moves beyond one-to-one computing to allow students to connect wirelessly to the school's network with any Internet-ready device.
