Building the Business Case for Sustainable Design
Harris, Bill
Community College Journal, v82 n2 p32-37 Oct-Nov 2011
While it is too early to measure changes in fall 2011 enrollments, overcrowding on campuses is likely to remain a problem, at least for the foreseeable future. For community colleges, many of which face steep budget cuts in the coming year, the challenge will be how to draw back spending without negatively affecting the student experience. Sustainable design stands to play an important role in this effort. Proponents of sustainable design say high-performance campus buildings help educators create better learning and working environments for students, faculty, and administrative staff. In this article, the author discusses how administrators do their homework to make the case for cost-effective building improvements.
