American Journal of Evaluation, v32 n4 p565-599 Dec 2011
2011 is the 25th anniversary of the American Evaluation Association. Such occasions are often recognized both by looking back to assess and celebrate accomplishments of the past and by looking ahead to anticipate the problems and potential of the future. In the past 25 years, the profession of evaluation has experienced rapid, ubiquitous growth, recovering from, responding to, and even capitalizing on rapidly changing conditions. An important source of stability for the profession has been the attention given to a number of fundamental issues whose resolution has defined and shaped the profession. Accurate predictions may be difficult, but visions about directions that evaluation might or should take can be helpful in charting the future. This article presents a collection of brief forward-looking statements. Each author presents a topic, explains its importance to the profession, and suggests ways it might be approached in coming years. (Contains 12 notes.)
