Guzeller, Cem Oktay; Akin, Ayca
Turkish Online Journal of Educational Technology - TOJET, v10 n4 p349-354 Oct 2011
The purpose of this study was to investigate the extent to which students from Turkey have access to a computer and the internet at school and at home, and differences in ICT accessibility by geographic region based on the data obtained from the PISA 2009. Data collected through the ICT questionnaire were analyzed by descriptive statistical indexes such as percentage technique. Important findings from the study indicated (i) access to a computer and the internet at school and at home in Turkey is still very low; (ii) Western Marmara is the best region. The region is above the average of country in the accessibility of ICT; (iii) South Eastern Anatolia is the worst region. The region is below the average of country in the accessibility of ICT. These findings confirm that developing countries in general tend to have limited computer and the internet access at school and at home. (Contains 2 tables.)
