Job Search Skills 101: Helping Students Get the Job
Pucillo, John M.
Tech Directions, v70 n8 p18-20 Mar 2011
Technology education can contribute a great deal to preparing students for good employment opportunities. Still, most educators, students, and parents realize that employers are looking for a wide variety of skills in their employees, and education in technology subjects alone is not enough to ensure a good job after graduation. Technology educators must include job search skills and training in the curriculum if they want to help produce a successful workforce. The author has put together a six-part assignment to help his students learn the necessary skills: (1) job search; (2) cover letter; (3) resume; (4) portfolio; (5) interview; and (6) follow-up letter. In this article, he provides a brief explanation of each part of the job search process.
