Practical Uses of Literacy-Embedded Play Centers
Walker, Sharryn Larsen; Spybrook, Janet
NHSA Dialog, v14 n2 p89-97 2011
Literacy-Embedded Play Centers (LEPC) are important components of preschool classrooms. These centers encourage the development of literacy skills in an environment that promotes play and interaction with literacy tools. By highlighting the process teacher candidates used to plan, construct, and implement LEPC, a framework for development is featured. Ideas for the use of LEPC in Head Start classrooms and accommodations for diverse learners are included. Implications for including families in the activities are presented.
