Utterances made by teachers to meet various educational aims in the classroom have a certain effect on student learning. The quality of teachers' linguistic acts influences efficiency in all aspects of the methods, techniques and strategies used in the instructional process. This study has been conducted to reveal the verbal behaviors that teachers use in the classroom, and how these influence students. The data obtained in the present study were classified into themes and analyzed descriptively. It was found that the linguistic acts used by the teacher in the classroom aimed to discipline and control students. Verbal stimuli used for this purpose showed that the behaviorist approach was reflected in classrooms.
