ASBO at 100: Looking Back
School Business Affairs, v76 n1 p10-21 Jan-Feb 2010
This article takes a look at the early years of the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) and discusses how the organization was developed. To be successful, organizations must evolve, adapting to the changes in the profession and, thus, the changing needs of their members--and that is just what this fledgling group did. While ASBO's initial focus was school accounting and reporting procedures, it didn't stay that way for long. School business management is a complex field, and it soon became clear that school business managers work with a much broader brushstroke than just accounting and reporting. This recognition of the expanding field is reflected to some extent in the topics raised at the association's annual meetings. This article describes ASBO's governance, the changing membership, its affiliate organizations, its annual meeting and how the organization reaches out to others.
