Professional Development Credits in Student Affairs Practice: A Method to Enhance Professionalism
Dean, Laura A.; Woodard, Bobby R.; Cooper, Diane L.
College Student Affairs Journal, v27 n1 p45-56 Fall 2007
Many professions require members to be involved in continuing education in order to maintain skill levels, to remain current on issues, and often to remain licensed or certified in that field. The same level of continuous professional development does not always occur in student affairs, and there exists no system for documenting such activities when they occur. The purpose of this study is to explore the perceived benefits of requiring professional development credits (PDCs) in the profession of student affairs. Results indicate support for instituting PDCs in student affairs, with differences related to years in the field. (Contains 2 tables.)
