The Return: A Music Teacher Educator Goes Back to the Elementary Music Classroom
de Vries, Peter
Action, Criticism, and Theory for Music Education, v9 n2 p33-47 Sep 2010
In this article the author explores two aspects of his identity as an educator: (1) his identity as a classroom music teacher back teaching at Somerset Primary school; and (2) his identity as a music teacher educator upon his return to full-time university employment following six months of substitute teaching, including the block of teaching at Somerset Primary. In exploring these two aspects of music teacher identity the author tells stories of his experiences, because telling stories is in fact ""doing" identity work," in that "telling stories involves reflection on, selection of and arrangement of events in an artful manner which contains meaning for the teller and seeks to persuade the listener of their significance."
