Aliev, M. N.; Gadzhiev, Sh. A.
Russian Education and Society, v52 n8 p78-85 Aug 2010
This article illustrates how experimental programs in Dagestan show that it is possible to help students to become better adapted to Russian society and to function more appropriately. Russian society has been going through a difficult period in the past few decades, along with serious changes in all spheres of life. A great many problems have arisen under the conditions of the economic crisis and the unstable economic situation: social and psychological tension, unemployment, a declining standard of living for the majority of the population, and increasing social stratification of society into rich and poor. As a consequence, according to the data of a number of pedagogical experts, psychologists, and sociologists, there has been an increase in the number of pedagogically neglected and disadapted children and adolescents. These factors account for the need to organize goal-directed pedagogical work to prevent and overcome adolescent disadaptation. An educator has to be able to predict in advance the negative consequences of adolescent disadaptation, to determine the contributing factors, and to take timely action to eliminate any deviations in the behavior of children of school age.
