The Top 100 Bachelor's Degree Conferred
Borden, Victor M. H.
Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, v27 n9 p26-43 Jun 2010
Each year in the Top 100 series, researchers highlight the institutions that confer the most degrees to students of color. In this edition, they focus on the most prevalent degree conferred: the bachelor's degree. Among the types of colleges and universities that they examine--those that have Title IV status (recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as eligible to distribute federal student aid), are located in the 50 states or the District of Columbia and are not military service-related--just under 1.6 million bachelor's degrees were conferred in academic year 2008-09, compared with about 800,000 associate degrees and 660,000 master's, 95,000 first professional and 62,000 doctoral degrees. This edition offers a list of institutions that conferred the most bachelor's degrees to students of color in academic year 2008-09. The summer chart illustrates the contributions toward minority degree attainment by institutional type, characterized by different sectors, that arise from the institutional classification taxonomies maintained by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning.
