Environmental Education in a Standards-Based World
Applied Environmental Education and Communication, v5 n4 p277-279 2006
In 1993, the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) Board started the National Project for Excellence in Environmental Education to establish a framework of standards by which their field is valued. Since then, the project has produced a series of "Guidelines" to help people produce quality EE. Just as importantly, the Guidelines have helped their profession develop credibility with Congress, government agencies, foundations, businesses, and not-for-profit organizations around the world. Developed through critique and consensus, the Guidelines are grounded in a common understanding of effective environmental education. This article presents four documents produced by NAAEE that show how to practice EE excellence.
