Evaluating Forestry Camps with National Standards in Environmental Education: A Case Study of the Junior Forester Academy, Northern Arizona University
Salata, Tina L.; Ostergren, David M.
Applied Environmental Education and Communication, v9 n1 p50-57 2010
The Junior Forester Academy (JFA) is a summer forestry camp that provides environmental education (EE) in the context of an outdoor education program. The JFA was established in 2004 and is located at Northern Arizona University's Centennial Forest site. The JFA's goal is to increase a campers' understanding of forest ecology and forestry skills through fieldwork and games. The formative evaluation in this document incorporates professional standards from the North American Association of Environmental Education and the Association of Nature Center Administrators. Using these standards, and collaborative observations and interviews of participants, the JFA will determine if it is expanding within the scope of established standards. (Contains 4 tables.)
