Galileo Educational Network: Creating, Researching, and Supporting 21st Century Learning
Friesen, Sharon
Education Canada, v49 n5 spec iss p7-9 2009
School and classroom structures designed to meet the needs of the industrial past cannot "maintain the temperature required for sustaining life." Recent learning sciences research findings compel educators to invent new learning environments better suited to meet the demands of the 21st century. These new learning environments require different approaches to the design of curriculum, teaching, and assessment. This article features Galileo Educational Network, an independent, charitable organization with a mandate to create and support 21st century learning and leadership by creating researched images of instructional practices and teacher and student learning through the four pillars: (1) leading and learning, (2) capacity building, (3) effective infusion of technology, and (4) research and development. Six principles of Galileo Educational Network are presented. (Contains 6 notes.)
