Younger Evangelicals: Where Will They Take the Christian Right?
Chamberlain, Pam
Christian Higher Education, v8 n4 p327-341 2009
Current research about the political and social views of students at conservative evangelical colleges is reviewed. The results reveal that there is more diversity among these students than is assumed by the general population. One drawback to the research is that the studies are disproportionately about White college students. The article includes direct quotations from students themselves about homosexuality, often in response to a traveling group of evangelical lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender (LGBT) young people and their allies, the Equality Riders, who have visited fifty evangelical colleges since 2006. It suggests that younger evangelicals prefer spokespeople of their own age cohort. [This article was originally published in "Public Eye" 24(1), the magazine of Political Research Associates.]
