On the Special Characteristics of Institutional Operation in the Process of Undergraduate Teaching Evaluation
Xianjun, Liu
Chinese Education and Society, v42 n2 p71-78 Mar-Apr 2009
That each institution of higher education should develop its own salient special characteristics ("te se") of institutional operation is a matter of major and far-reaching significance for the reform and development of higher education, and every institution of higher education should attach a high degree of importance to, and correctly understand, this matter. The special characteristics of any higher education institution should be manifested in four aspects: unique education concepts, rules and regulations acknowledged by the institution's members, a uniquely excellent tradition and academic atmosphere, and good influences and effects in society. An error that is most likely to occur today when understanding and summing up special institution-operating characteristics is to regard the institutions' achievements, general characteristics, orientation, and qualities ("te zhi") and traits ("te dian") as special characteristics.
