Advancing Cultural Understanding through a "Celebrate Diversity!" Event: Perspectives from Three Voices
Frumkin, Rhoda; Baver, Michael; Mustakas, Christopher
Multicultural Education, v16 n4 p39-46 Sum 2009
"Celebrate Diversity!" is the signature event of the Mosaic Coalition, a campus-community partnership created by Wagner College and the New York Center for Interpersonal Development (NYCID) to further the appreciation of diverse cultures on Staten Island. As a celebration of the unique characteristics and contributions of the Island's ethnic communities, the Mosaic Coalition sponsors the annual "Celebrate Diversity!" festival. In this article, the authors chronicle their journey in creating "Celebrate Diversity! 2007," and share what they learned from three perspectives--that of a college professor, a coalition coordinator, and an undergraduate student leader.
