Three research abstracts dealt with program outcomes and the factors that affect them. Morgan (2008) dealt with the potential influence of sensation-seeking personality traits on perceived risk and perceived competence in adventure experiences. Two abstracts by Bobilya, Akey, and Mitchell, Jr. (2008) and Austin, Martin, Mittelstaedt, Schanning, and Ogle (2008) investigated program outcomes of wilderness and outdoor orientation programs. Each study provides insight into the outcomes specific to their research questions, methodologies, and in two cases, the institutions and context of the orientation programs studied. Like many researchers, I am interested in how the research applies to my current work and program challenges as well as future research that can contribute to the field. Upon review of the abstracts and SEER presentations, my remarks focus on three outcomes of the research conducted and further queries into these components that could expand our knowledge and understanding of the areas of study.
