Scholarly Articles and Community and Junior College Students: An Uneven Match?
French, Tiana
Community & Junior College Libraries, v13 n1 p13-23 2004
Internet and communications technologies have changed the way academic research is performed. Although at first reluctant to have their students use subscription online database articles as resources for papers, faculty in community and junior colleges have embraced the new research methods. However, their need to have students use solid information sources leads them to require students to use scholarly journal articles, which are often too specific to be useful to and comprehensible for students. This article describes these shifts in detail and gives tips on how librarians can focus both faculty and students on resources that are useable and academic.
