Over the years, the author has discovered that learning how to write mini-grants helped him transition to writing successful major grants. In applying for a mini-grant, the author thinks of any grant going under $5,000. The important thing to understand is that many, many corporations and foundations have mini-grant programs. Accessing the websites of corporations and foundations in a city, county, and state, before researching grants opportunities elsewhere, will alert a person to the funding opportunities that are out there for the asking. All a person has to do is write the grant flawlessly. In this article, the author discusses six basic components to any grant application--including the mini grant. The 6 components of a successful mini-grant application are: (1) the needs assessment; (2) goals; (3) objectives; (4) the activities; (5) evaluation specifications; and (6) the budget.
