True Colors: Are Others What We Want to See?
Brown, Lester B.; Alley, Glen R.
American Indian Quarterly, v27 n1-2 p121-131 Win-Spr 2003
The word "discrimination" simply means the ability to recognize small or fine distinctions, to draw distinctions based on one's bias. Each person discriminates every day, simply because people have personal preferences and have the luxury and freedom to act on those preferences. Each person has been discriminated "for" and "against" at some time. There are numerous examples of the ways people avoid others or find methods to prevent others from achieving their goals and objectives. In this article, the authors describe their experiences of how people discriminate others and remind everyone that each person can make the existence of others better. The authors call on those who are not willing to try to understand those who may be different not to keep others from being as helpful as they can. (Contains 1 note.)
