TechTrends: Linking Research and Practice to Improve Learning, v53 n1 p42-44 Jan 2009
This article presents several reports that highlight the events at the 2008 Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) International Convention in Orlando, Florida. At the annual convention this year, the Multimedia Production Division goal was to continue to share information about the latest tools in multimedia production, increase awareness of developmental tools for multimedia production, and provide a collaborative environment for multimedia producers to establish a connection with technology and communication specialists. The Design and Development (D&D) Division promotes the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning through the acquisition and application of knowledge, skills, and dispositions in order to design conditions for learning, develop instructional materials and experiences, and evaluate the adequacy of instruction and learning. As part of that mission, D&D sponsored over 62 concurrent, roundtable, and poster sessions at the convention. The Training & Performance (T&P) Division experienced another successful year of quality presentations that supported the overall goals of T&P. The presentations focused on topics dealing with training strategies for learning content management systems, simulations, and webinars. Presenters described work-in-progress, case studies, and research results, along with examples of student work. The International Council for Educational Media (ICEM) has dedicated itself to providing an international platform for professionals in educational media to interact on individual, organizational, and cultural levels with the goal of advancing education. As an affiliated organization of AECT, ICEM was proud to sponsor eight concurrent sessions, one roundtable, and one poster session in this year's convention. Lastly, the Division for Systemic Change hosted a collection of interesting and important sessions, all focusing on creating and sustaining systemic change in education systems.
