An Open Letter to a New Principal
Hall, Pete
Principal, v88 n4 p8-13 Mar-Apr 2009
During the author's first decade in school administration, coupled with his work with the National Association of Elementary School Principals' National Principal Mentoring Certification Program, he has collected a few nuggets worth sharing to rookie principals. In this article, he discusses what he calls his 7UP (Seven Unyielding Principles): (1) Get a mentor; (2) Hire well; (3) Differentiate supervision; (4) Cultivate a learning community; (5) Follow the three Golden Rules; (6) Remain flexible as a learner; and (7) Stay healthy. (Contains 3 online resources.)
