Experiential Learning in the Tetons
Turke, Emily; Fox, Leigh Ann
Journal of the Wilderness Education Association, v20 n3 p8-9 Win 2008
Over the summer, ten students participated in a ten day Wilderness Education Association backpacking course set in Wyoming and the Grand Tetons. This field experience course was a supplemental class that would apply all leadership, climbing skills and risk management knowledge that Parks and Recreation Management (PRM) students learn in the classroom. Experiential learning is a very important element of the PRM curriculum and this course was a great way to apply students' knowledge. This article describes the learning experiences of the participants in their Teton expedition.
