Email and All that Jazz: Training Staff to Use Electronic Communication Tools Professionally
Stephens, Karen
Exchange: The Early Childhood Leaders' Magazine Since 1978, n184 p16-19 Nov-Dec 2008
There are many benefits of e-mails. Through e-mail, a person can relay specific details to any number of "need to know" persons at the press of a "send" key at any time of day, without playing endless phone tag or waking someone up on the wrong side of the time zone. A person can also get "newsy" information out fast and save printing money, too. Email can also be a helpful memory-aide. It keeps a traceable record of items or issues a person has addressed, to whom, and when. There's much to be gained from using e-mail, but also much to be avoided. This article covers topics that early childhood leaders should address consistently and thoroughly with their staff before they jump on the worldwide web of e-communication. It presents guidelines in setting e-policy statements for electronic communication and offers suggestions on how to train staff to properly and effectively use electronic communication tools. (Contains 6 resources.)
