For the last several years ago, Arkansas has served incarcerated juveniles in facilities of 485 beds through fourteen juvenile detention centers located in rural as well as urban areas throughout the state. Six years ago a web-based educational program was piloted in one of the juvenile detention centers in northwest Arkansas. The program was diagnostic and prescriptive. It focused on areas of weakness targeting math and reading skills. The program was implemented in the Sebastian County Juvenile Detention Facility, and data were collected concerning the effectiveness of the program. Shortly after the pilot, all fifteen sites became part of a special project called JEdI (Juvenile Education Initiative). Each detention center was asked to submit demographic information and education reports to be used in a research project. These data were submitted to the Arkansas Department of Education for review and study. This article presents the data representing the outcomes of the JEdI project. (Contains 6 tables.)
