Toward Excellence in Technology Education
LaPorte, James E.
Technology Teacher, v68 n1 p18-24 Sep 2008
This article presents a text of a speech delivered by the author at the Foundation for Technology Education (FTE) Spirit of Excellence breakfast in Salt Lake City, Utah. In this speech, the author talked about the meaning of excellence. In order to pursue excellence, the author suggested that people in the field of technology education should improve their self-concept as a profession and should be proud of themselves. Second, the scholarship should to be openly shared among all those committed to developing technological literacy. Third, administrators should nurture their human resources through recruitment, retention, and revitalization. Fourth, everyone should begin revising their standards and integrate the aesthetic component of design back into their curriculum in the process. Fifth, everyone must assure that they are always making a unique contribution to the overall educational endeavor, recognizing that doing so will always be a moving target.
