This article expands the notion of biracial identity to include bicultural individuals and examines their adaptation of faculty culture in the United States. The cultural context of bicultural faculty described here may be similar enough to the situations in which biracial people often find themselves as they negotiate dominant and nondominant cultures to allow some comparisons of experiences. By assessing the cultural milieu, assessing their own racial identity, and making the necessary psychological, social, and political adjustments to the ways in which they interact with fellow faculty members, academic administrators, and students, these bicultural minority faculty members may be able to achieve success in a context that originally may not seem welcoming.
