The Space in Between: Issues for Multiracial Student Organizations and Advising
Ozaki, C. Casey; Johnston, Marc
New Directions for Student Services, n123 p53-61 2008
While multiracial organizations occur on campuses in increasing numbers, little is known about how they develop and function and the purposes they serve for students. Yet as these organizations become more prevalent, staff, administrators, and faculty are being asked to work with and advise them. In this article, the authors review what is known about multiracial and identity-based student organizations, discuss some of the issues and challenges unique to them, and provide suggestions for working with and advising them.
