Reflecting on the Experience: Musings from the Antipodes
Dickson, Tracey J.
Journal of Adventure Education and Outdoor Learning, v8 n1 p21-29 Jun 2008
Facilitating the reflection upon outdoor and adventure experiences is a common practice for many leaders and instructors. This article draws upon visual semiotics to provide reflections upon three images from books that originate from within the dominant North American paradigm. These musings are from one Antipodean's perspective, who may see the world differently from their position "down under" and as a result of her own subjective space. These musings lead to further questions being raised as to how reflection and facilitation may differ if other factors, such as gender, culture, and learning styles, were considered by researchers and practitioners.
