ADHD: Misconceptions and the Four Rules of Treatment
Kutscher, Martin L.
Exceptional Parent, v38 n9 p70-72 Sep 2008
Contrary to popular opinion, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is not just about hyperactive people who have short attention spans. ADHD is a disorder that involves difficult problems on a wide range of "executive dysfunction," a wide range of co-occuring conditions, and family problems. People need to recognize that ADHD is not just about short attention spans. There are effective ways to improve the lives of children with ADHD and their caregivers. This article presents four basic rules for treating ADHD: (1) Keep it positive; (2) Keep it calm; (3) Keep it organized; and (4) Keep it going.
